City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
DATE: November 25, 2024
SUBJECT
Final acceptance of the Redwood Avenue Sidewalk Curb and Gutter Improvement Project, a partially
grant-funded project established to increase safety and accessibility for people walking, riding bikes, and
driving along Redwood Avenue
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, accept the Redwood Avenue Sidewalk Curb and Gutter Improvement Project and authorize
the release of bonds and retention according to City procedures.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
The Redwood Avenue Sidewalk Curb and Gutter Improvement Project is related to two other projects that
will collectively increase safety and accessibility for people walking, riding bikes, and driving along
Redwood Avenue. The first project, already constructed by the developer of the Elco Yards project, the
was a community benefit to minimize negative effects due to increased traffic on Redwood Avenue that
may result from the development of Elco Yards. That project scope consisted generally of intersection and
crossing improvements between Hudson Street and the Woodside Road (State Route-84) onramp. A
second related project is a future City-led project that will grind and overlay the pavement of this segment
of Redwood Avenue after this project is complete.
Curbs between El Camino Real and Hudson Street were significantly lower than the City’s standard 6”
curbs for many portions of this section, which made it easier for vehicles to park partially on the sidewalk.
This project replaced the sidewalk curb and gutter on both sides of the street with standard 6” curbs and
reconstructed sidewalk slopes to be compliant with current accessibility requirements, consistent with
6.B. - Page 1 of 4
75
