From Hudson Street to Fairway Avenue the project mainly consisted of
installing ADA-compliant curb ramps.
All improvements were discussed in several community meetings. Neighbors were invited to attend these
meetings and many of the community-identified issues along Redwood Avenue were fixed by this project.
On April 24, 2024, the City Council awarded the contract for the Redwood Avenue Sidewalk Curb and
Gutter Improvement Project to FBD Vanguard Construction, Inc. of Livermore, CA for $1,653,788 and a
not to exceed amount of $1,819,167 (10% contingency).
Pre-Project condition Post-Project condition
ANALYSIS
Construction started in July 2023 and concluded in August 2024. The contractor has completed the
construction of the improvements in accordance with the agreement, plans, specifications, and to the
satisfaction of the City’s Engineering & Transportation Department.
Four contract change orders, resulting in a cost increase of $88,513.63, were issued for quantity
adjustments, to address unforeseen underground utility conflicts, to replace inadequate planting soil for
the landscaping, and to make changes to the irrigation system design. The final contract amount is
$1,742,301.63, which is 5% above the initial contract amount and less than the authorized not-to-exceed
amount.
6.B. - Page 2 of 4
76
