These pillars will help guide the outreach process. <br />1.Equity: The team will center social equity as a guiding principle in community engagement by: <br />2. Actively seeking the perspectives of communities that have historically enjoyed less access to the <br />government decision-making processes that directly affect their lives, including, but not limited to, <br />communities of color, low income communities, people with disabilities, people with limited English <br />fluency, and youth; <br />3. Raising up the voices and perspectives of disadvantaged communities to ensure that they are <br />thoughtfully considered and integrated into the decision-making process for the Plan; and <br />4. Avoiding “tokenism” by acknowledging that there are often many perspectives within any given <br />community and not assuming opinions expressed by a small sample of people are representative of <br />an entire community. <br />5. Undertaking focused engagement efforts within equity priority communities led by consultant team <br />member Nuestra Casa, including door-to-door canvassing within the Plan study area, in order to hear <br />directly from community members. Nuestra Casa’s “Promotoras” Program is a unique model in which <br />trusted community members (“Promotoras”) help share information and gather input on important <br />issues in the community. Promotoras will help provide a key community link for the project Team. <br />6.Meet People Where They Are: Redwood City routinely seeks input and feedback from community <br />members on issues that may impact their lives. While this work is important to ensure we are meeting <br />community needs and concerns, it can also lead to “engagement fatigue” in which community <br />8.A. - Page 3 of 17 <br />66
