This
is a Study Session, and no action will be taken at this meeting.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Transportation
BACKGROUND
The State Route (SR) 84/U.S. 101 Interchange Project (Project) is a critical but outdated gateway to
Redwood City and the Redwood City Port industrial area, as well as the shoreline. Redwood City is leading
a multi-agency effort to reconstruct the entire interchange area to enhance traffic safety, reduce
congestion and pollution, and provide safer bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout the area.
Environmental reviews were completed in 2016, and project design began in 2017.
Key project highlights from 2024 include:
The Cost Estimate was revised to reflect 2024 costs, updating cost projections from 2018. The increase
in project costs is attributed to rising inflation, higher construction costs, and increased cost of
materials.
The Project was awarded $153 million in new Federal and regional grant funding.
Right-of-Way acquisition phase was initiated, with market-based offers issued in November 2024.
9.A. - Page 1 of 6
81
