The City launched Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in 2021. ERGs are a common structure <br />in organizations to support employees to gather in celebration of a shared identity, build <br />community, deepen professional development, and offer input to their employer. <br />Employees are always welcome to propose additional ERGs. Redwood City currently has five <br />ERGs for employees who identify as: <br />Asian and Pacific Islander <br />Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) <br />Having one or more disabilities <br />IDEAL Update - February 2025 | Page 4 <br />Departments are expanding public dashboards on the <br />City’s Open Data Portal. The dashboards share information <br />transparently and uniformly with the public. <br />Staff are convening a tech governance committee to <br />provide guidance to all departments on a range of topics, <br />including use of artificial intelligence, data collection and <br />management, and analysis of key performance indicators. <br />As part of the budget process, departments now develop <br />SMARTIE goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, <br />time-bound, inclusive, and equitable goals) as we transition <br />to more metric-driven initiatives in City work. <br />In fall 2020, the City hosted a series of staff listening <br />sessions and later launched an employee <br />engagement survey focused on staff experiences <br />related to inclusion and opportunity. Based on this <br />feedback, the City has initiated projects including: <br />The City has launched a new mentorship <br />program to support professional development <br />and interdepartmental connection for staff. <br />Since 2023, the City provides an extensive <br />training on equity and inclusion for all staff to <br />ensure a baseline understanding of the City's <br />terms, goals, and desired skills related to equity. <br />This effort invites staff to participate in designing <br />the next steps of our equity work. <br />Workforce Resilience <br />Data-Based Decisions <br />LGBTQ+ <br />Women <br />Employee Values, Updated 2023 <br />Improving measurement and evaluation systems within the City is a key priority and will <br />support more robust equity work in the future.
