From:Shishir Bhat
To:publiccomment
Subject:Comment on item 5
Date:Saturday, February 8, 2025 1:28:12 AM
You don't often get email from shishirvbhat@gmail.com. Learn why this is important
Hello council,
As you go about your biannual planning, I'd like to encourage the council to pay attention to
two priorities:
1. Affordability
Affordability is directly related to the livability of the city and the capacity of people to spend
extra time to participate in and improve the community. In a time when there's a hostile
federal administration aiming to force out community members, the last thing we want is for
people to be forced out by the sheer price levels of housing and services.
2. Safe Streets
With respect to pedestrian and cyclist safety, there are more areas to work on to update streets
to slow down vehicles, especially when we see a rise in reckless drivers around the same
commute hours when people are biking/walking home. The city has already done great work
in this regard and I hope we continue to expand the structural modifications to other streets.
There's a great opportunity before the council in the coming year to address both safety of
streets and affordability during the charting of the updated Downtown Precise Plan.
Thanks,
Shishir Bhat
