As both a longtime Redwood City resident and a restaurant general manager, I see this project as a
major win for our community—not just in terms of economic growth, but in the way it thoughtfully balances
business, environment, and quality of life.
Let’s start with the business side. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry here for years, and I can tell you firsthand
that corporate clients—whether it’s business lunches, happy hours, or big private events—are a huge part of what
keeps restaurants, caterers, and other service businesses thriving. The life science industry has been growing in the
Bay Area, and projects like this mean more professionals working, dining, and spending money right here in
Redwood City. More customers mean more revenue, more jobs, and more stability for our local businesses. That’s a
big deal, especially after the rollercoaster of the past few years.
But beyond business, I’m also a dad, and I care about the kind of city my family lives in. One of the things I really
appreciate about the Redwood LIFE Evolve proposal is how it takes environmental concerns seriously. Sea level
rise isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a real issue for Redwood Shores, and this project is stepping up to address it. By
improving drainage, and investing in levee protection, this development is actively helping to keep our community
safe and sustainable for the future.
I also want to highlight Alternative 2 because, honestly, it shows that the developers are listening. They’ve reduced
the overall size of the project, pulled back on building heights, and created more open space. That’s the kind of
compromise that shows real respect for the community. It still brings in the jobs, business, and innovation we need,
but in a way that considers the concerns of residents.
Thanks for your time, and I hope you’ll support this project for all the ways it can help make Redwood City even
better.
Best,
Alejandro Santillan
Redwood City Resident & General Manager
Sent from my iPhone
