OUTDOOR BUSINESS ACTIVITY PROGRAM GUIDELINES (“PROGRAM GUIDELINES”OR “GUIDELINES”)
The Program Guidelines were designed with the
following concerns in mind:
1 Consistency in design standards
2 Easy-to-understand processes
3 Accessibility
4 Public Safety
5 Fire and Emergency Responder Safety
The purpose of the Guidelines is to establish
guidelines, standards, and solutions for
an Applicant to meet the design, locational,
and permitting requirements of the City
and California Building Standards Code
when applicable. These Guidelines have
been prepared in the spirit of implementing
General Plan policies and the vision for vibrant
commercial areas throughout the City.
Parklets and sidewalk cafes are a privilege,
not a right. These are spaces in the public
domain that should maintain a public look
and feel. Applications that do not meet the
requirements outlined in the City’s Municipal
Code and within these Guidelines must be
denied. Therefore, business owners should
consider carefully whether to hire an expert to
prepare technical documents and otherwise
proceed with the submittal of an application to
avoid sunk design and permitting costs.
2
ATTY/RESO.0017/CC RESO OUTDOOR BUSINESS ACTIVITY PROGRAM GUIDELINES - EXHIBIT A
REV: 03-03-25 JB
