4 <br />Diagram 1: Public Right-of-Way <br />SIDEWALK ZONE <br />This zone encompasses the Pedestrian Zone, the <br />Cafe Zone, and the Buffer Zone within the right- <br />of-way as shown in Diagram 1. <br />• Buffer Zone (Width varies, but must be <br />at least 2 feet wide): This zone, within the <br />Sidewalk Zone, provides for the physical <br />separation between the Roadway and the <br />Pedestrian or Cafe Zone. <br />• Pedestrian Zone (Width varies, but must <br />be at least 5 feet wide): This zone, within the <br />Sidewalk Zone, is for the safe and unimpeded <br />passage of pedestrians, wheelchairs, baby <br />carriers, etc. This zone may include existing <br />trees, lampposts, benches, bike racks, or other <br />pieces of public infrastructure. This zone may <br />be located adjacent to the fronting building (as <br />shown in Diagram 1) or may be swapped with <br />the Cafe Zone such that it is adjacent to the <br />Buffer Zone. <br />• Cafe Zone (Width varies): This zone allows <br />for the installation of Movable Sidewalk <br />Cafe Improvements, such as tables, chairs, <br />umbrellas, or portable heaters. This zone <br />may include existing trees, lampposts, <br />benches, bike racks, or other pieces of public <br />infrastructure. This zone may be located <br />between the Pedestrian Zone and Buffer Zone <br />(as shown in Diagram 1) or can be swapped <br />with the Pedestrian Zone such that it is <br />adjacent to the fronting building. <br />VEHICULAR ZONE <br />This zone (width varies) refers to the vehicular <br />travel lane (Roadway) and the on-street parking <br />adjacent to the edge of curb.
