CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />SUMMARY OF COMPENSATION AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT <br />FOR THE CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE GROUP <br /> <br />Page 14 of 34 <br />Current employees hired prior to the date on which this Summary was <br />approved by the City Council may make an irrevocable election on or before <br />December 1 of the prior year to cash out up to forty-eight (48) hours of sick <br />leave to be accrued in the following calendar year and cashed out in that same <br />year at their base rate of pay at the time of cash out. They must retain at least <br />eighty (80) hours (two (2) full weeks) of sick leave after the cash out. <br />Employees hired on or after the date on which this Summary was approved by <br />the City Council may make an irrevocable election on December 1 to cash out <br />up to twenty-four (24) hours of sick leave to be accrued in the following <br />calendar year and cashed out in that same year at their base rate of pay at the <br />time of cash out. They must retain at least eighty (80) hours (two (2) full weeks) <br />of sick leave after the cash out. The amount of sick leave credits will be <br />deducted from the employee’s sick leave balance at the time of cash out. <br />Payment shall be made after December 31. There shall be no payment in lieu <br />of accumulated sick leave benefits for years prior to such calendar year. <br /> <br />If an employee terminates for reasons other than death, retirement or <br />discharge, compensation in lieu of unused sick leave shall be paid in the <br />amount provided for an employee who elects to receive compensation in lieu <br />of sick leave credits, prorated to the date of termination of service. <br /> <br />Employees who have ten (10) years of service and who retire from City <br />employment with benefits from PERS or who die while in the employ of the <br />City shall be eligible to receive fifty percent (50%) of the employee’s normal <br />rate of pay for the remaining accrued unused sick leave. <br />In the event of the death of an employee, such payments shall be made to the <br />designated beneficiary filed with the Director of Finance, or, in the event no <br />designated beneficiary has been chosen, the beneficiary listed in the <br />employee’s insurance policy. The beneficiary will receive payment of such <br />unused sick leave in the applicable amount provided in this Section. <br /> Employees discharged for disciplinary reasons shall not be eligible for <br />payment of unused sick leave. <br />6.
