City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
DATE: March 10, 2025
SUBJECT
Adoption of 2025 City of Redwood City Legislative Platform, as recommended by the City Council’s
Governance Sub-Committee
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, adopt the Redwood City 2025 Legislative Platform as recommended by the City Council’s
Governance Sub-Committee.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Excellence in Government Operations
BACKGROUND
As part of the state legislative advocacy services provided to the City by California Public Policy Group
(CPPG), each year CPPG, in partnership with City staff, assesses the City’s Legislative Platform. The
Legislative Platform provides ongoing direction needed for the City’s legislative consultant to engage on
a variety of legislative proposals.
Addressing the City Council’s top priorities at the state level requires a multi-layered approach.
Maintaining and updating the Legislative Platform at the beginning of each legislative session is an
important component for the City’s overall legislative advocacy program. This will ensure that the City
Council’s current priorities are reflected in the Platform and will allow the City’s legislative consultants to
engage on new state initiatives that affect the City’s key priorities, programs, and/or operations. While
the Platform serves as a guide to the City Council in adopting positions on legislation, it does not preclude
the City from directing the legislative consultant to engage the State legislature on any issue important to
the City that may arise throughout the legislative session. Additionally, pursuant to the City Council’s
Legislative Advocacy Policy, individual Councilmembers may express their support for or opposition to any
6.D. - Page 1 of 11
85
