Pre-submittal Meetings - This is a substantial Project for which the Fire Department highly recommends the Applicant’s design team schedule pre-submittal meeting(s) to discuss code issues that may arise as the design is being finalized. To schedule these meetings please reach out to the Fire Marshal (Janice Cheung at jcheung@redwoodcity.org). Prior to the meeting, the Applicant should prepare a clear list of questions with references to specific code requirements. [Recommendation][FIRE] 66. Scope & Sequencing - The building permit plans should clearly note what the scope of work encompasses. If multiple phases will be constructed the description of work to be performed in each phase should be noted. If items are to be deferred, this should be clearly noted on the plans. [CBC §107.3.3 & 107.3.4.1] [COA][FIRE] 67. Fire Apparatus Access - All portions of the exterior of the building are required to be accessible and within 150-feet of the fire apparatus access road. [FIRE] [CFC §503.1.1] 68. Aerial Fire Apparatus Access Road (Sheets G4.04, C7.0, C11.0 and L0.01) - Where the vertical distance between the grade plane and the highest roof surface exceeds 30-feet, an aerial fire apparatus access road is required. [CFC Appendix D§105.1] This building is greater than 30-feet tall, and therefore an aerial (ladder truck) fire access road is required. • Width: The aerial fire apparatus access road shall have a minimum unobstructed width of 26-feet, exclusive of shoulders, in the immediate vicinity of the building. [CFC Appendix D§105.2] • Proximity to Building: One or more of the required access routes meeting this condition shall be located not less than 15-feet and not greater than 30-feet from the building and shall be positioned parallel along the longest entire side of the building. [CFC Appendix D§105.3] • Obstructions: Overhead utility and power lines cannot be located over the aerial fire apparatus access road or between the aerial fire apparatus road and the building. [CFC Appendix D§105.4] • Other Obstructions: Any other or fixed obstruction located on the entire length of the designated aerial fire apparatus access road shall not interfere with the operation of an aerial ladder placed at a maximum climbing angle of 75° from the turntable plane to the fullest extent of the aerial ladder effective reach.
