From:Mavy Arias
To:GRP-City Council; Council-Elmer MartinezSaballos
Cc:Planning Shared Mailbox; publiccomment; citymanager@redwoodcity.org; publicworks@redwoodcity.org
Subject:Request to Establish Residential Parking Permit Zone Near 112 Vera Avenue
Date:Friday, April 25, 2025 3:36:16 PM
Some people who received this message don't often get email from ariasmavy@gmail.com. Learn why this is
important
Dear City Council Members, Planning Division, City Manager, and Public Works
Department,
My name is Mavy Arias, and I am a resident of Redwood City living near Vera avenue, less
than a block away from the 112 Vera Avenue development.
While I understand that the 178-unit project was approved under SB 35/SB 423 and cannot be
reversed, I am deeply concerned about the very real impacts it will have on our neighborhood
— especially related to parking.
Our streets are already heavily congested. Assuming that new residents will not own vehicles
because of proximity to transit is unrealistic and unfair. Many working-class residents,
including tenants in affordable housing, rely on personal vehicles for work, childcare, and
daily needs.
I am formally requesting that the City of Redwood City immediately begin the process of
establishing a Residential Parking Permit Zone for the streets surrounding 112 Vera
Avenue, including Adams Street, Lincoln Avenue, and the nearby residential areas.
I urge the City to:
Conduct a parking impact study focused on this neighborhood
Develop and implement a Residential Parking Permit Program to protect current
residents’ access to parking
Ensure that any necessary signage, enforcement, and program setup are in place prior to
tenant move-in
I support affordable housing — but it must be planned in a way that respects the needs of both
new and existing community members. Our neighborhood deserves thoughtful planning, not
assumptions that shift the burden onto working families.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate any updates you can
provide regarding how the City plans to address parking and community impacts before
this project is completed.
Sincerely,
Mavy Arias
Content Creator & Social Media Manager
E: ariasmavy@gmail.com
