REV: 04-29-25 LF
3. The aerial device shall be capable of sustaining a static load one and one-third times it's rated
tip load capacity (live load) in every position in which the aerial devices can be placed when the
vehicle is on a slope of five degrees downward in the direction most likely to cause overturning.
4. The hydraulic system shall be designed so that if a failure of any component or assembly within
the system occurs, a single point failure of the entire system will not occur.
5. The aerial shall be capable of operating with a rated tip load of either of the two of the following
conditions:
A. Conditions of high wind of up to 50 mph.
B. Conditions of icing, up to a coating of .25” over the entire aerial structure.
All of the design criteria must be supported by the following test data:
1. Strain gauge testing of the complete aerial device certified by a Registered Professional
Engineer.
2. Analysis of deflection data taken while the aerial device was under test load.
3. Accelerometer test to determine dynamic response during ladder operation
4. Hydraulic component operating and burst strength testing.
MATERIAL STANDARD
All structural materials used in the aerial shall be certified by the mill of the manufactured material.
Materials that are not certified shall not be acceptable.
GENERAL APPARATUS DESCRIPTION
The unit shall be designed to conform fully to the “Aerial or Quint Fire Apparatus” requirements
as stated in the current NFPA Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, applicable regulations in
effect as of the Effective Date, shall include the general requirements as stated in the Chapter for
Aerial or Quint Apparatus.
MOUNTING OF THE AERIAL DEVICE
The aerial device shall be mounted on the trailer with the turntable mounted directly above the
5th wheel pivot point in order to improve vehicle maneuverability, improve tillerman visibility and
to keep the overall height of the vehicle at a minimum.
The ladder rest shall be provided to support the ladder in the travel position. The rest shall be
constructed as part of the ground ladder superstructure. Stainless steel bedding plates shall be
attached to the ladder base section to protect the ladder paint when the unit is in the travel
position.
ATTY/AGR.2025.089/Fire Apparatus Solutions (Purchase of Spartan-LTC 105' TDA) (Page 118 of 150)
