REV: 04-29-25 LF
All aerial device wiring shall be multi-conductor, copper 24 gauge (minimum), color-coded, with
thermosetting cross-linked polyethylene insulation. All aerial device wiring shall be in pre-
engineered harnesses with each circuit identified by number and color code. Harness connections
shall be through locking, weatherproof, guided pin connectors.
FRAME
The trailer frame shall be of welded steel construction and gooseneck design.
The gooseneck area shall be constructed using structural shapes and plate. This area of the
trailer frame shall have a section modulus of 392 cubic inches and a resistant to bending moment
of 14,090,000 inch pounds.
The rearward portion of the trailer frame shall be constructed, using “C” channel and plate. The
section of frame from the gooseneck to the axle shall have a section modulus of 233.5 cubic
inches and a resistance to bending moment of 8,406,000 in lbs.
The portion of the trailer frame rearward of the axle shall have a section modulus of 111.7 cubic
inches and a resistance to bending moment of 4,021,200 in lbs.
The gooseneck area shall be 45” wide and 15” deep. The “C” channel and plate portion of the
frame shall be 34” wide and 13” deep.
TRAILER FRAME PAINT
The finished paint color shall be Job Color (to match primary chassis cab color) enamel, allowing
easy touch-up after extended use.
TRAILER FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY
The fifth wheel shall be a 1.25” diameter ball bearing, 3.875” x 34.00” diameter assembly, with
the mounting plate bolted to the chassis. The longitudinal pivot point mounting shall utilize two (2)
2” diameter steel pins.
A fifth wheel lockup system, utilizing four hydraulic cylinders, shall provide connectivity between
the fifth wheel bearing assembly and the tiller trailer gooseneck to enhance stability, during aerial
operations.
After the stabilizers are in their proper load supporting position, an interlock system shall then
provide control of the fifth wheel lockup cylinders. An additional interlock system shall prevent
operation of the aerial ladder unless the stabilizers and fifth wheel lockup cylinders are properly
deployed. After the aerial ladder is raised from the nested position, control of the fifth wheel lockup
cylinders or stabilizers shall be prevented. The fifth wheel lockup system shall be part of the
primary aerial hydraulic system. Systems which have the lockup cylinder connected to the fifth
wheel bearing assembly during road travel, requiring constant exchange of oil between the front
and rear cylinders, shall not be accepted.
TRAILER WHEELBASE
The trailer wheelbase shall be 346”.
ATTY/AGR.2025.089/Fire Apparatus Solutions (Purchase of Spartan-LTC 105' TDA) (Page 121 of 150)
