The
first system is a radio frequency-based system, and parts and repairs are being discontinued by the
manufacturer in line with their end of service life plan. This system is harder to maintain connection with
between sites due to the increase in building heights in the Downtown and other areas creating barriers
to the signal. The second system utilizes a cellular phone signal to communicate, but it also is nearing a
phasing out period for support and service.
There are over 160 irrigation controllers in the City’s system. Some roadway medians are simple single
station battery-operated units with a limited range bluetooth remote connection while other sites, like
Red Morton Park, host 10 separate controllers with up to 42 stations per controller but feature remote
connection capabilities.
6.E. - Page 1 of 24
101
