Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />DATE: July 21, 2025 <br />SUBJECT <br />Retroactive approval, and acceptance of the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Cannabis Tax Fund Grant for the <br />Redwood City Police Department <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution retroactively approving the application for and authorizing the City Manager, or <br />designee, to accept the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program Law Enforcement grant <br />awarded by the California Highway Patrol to the Redwood City Police Department in the amount of <br />$399,416, and to execute the grant agreement and any related documents necessary to receive funds. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />In an effort to enhance traffic safety and reduce impaired driving within the City, the Redwood City Police <br />Department (RCPD) applied for the FY 2025/26 Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program (CTFGP) – Law <br />Enforcement funding administered by the California Highway Patrol. The program provides financial <br />assistance to local agencies for education, prevention, and enforcement of driving under the influence <br />(DUI) of alcohol and other drugs, including cannabis. <br />The cornerstone of the proposed project is the funding for two DUI checkpoints. By conducting these <br />checkpoints in high-traffic or high-risk areas, the RCPD can significantly reduce the occurrence of DUI <br />offenses. <br />In addition to DUI checkpoints, the proposed project seeks funding for 20 DUI saturation patrols. <br />Saturation patrols involve increasing the presence of officers on the roads in areas with a high likelihood <br />6.D. - Page 1 of 38 <br />33
