Attachment A <br />Page 1 <br />BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ARTS COMMISSION <br />LARGE GRANT APPLICANTS FY 25-26 <br />Art Bias. Art Bias is a non-profit originally established in 1992 as the Art Center of Redwood City. From <br />mid-2017-2018, the Presidency and Board of Directors reformed and created a new name, mission, <br />policies, and procedures. The Art Center provides 50 below-market-rate artist studios, professional <br />development workshops and events, youth mentorship, exhibition opportunities, and a supportive <br />collective of artists interested in creating a vibrant and just community. Art Bias will host Casa Circulo <br />Cultural youth summer camp participants for art classes in Studio 114. Class content will be co-designed <br />with Casa Circulo Cultural staff, Art Bias artists, and associated community artists. The classes will be <br />bilingual in both English and Spanish and are free to all youth with healthy snacks being provided. <br />Funding Requested: $4,500. Funding Recommended: $3,860. <br />Ballet America. Ballet America affiliated with the Academy of American Dance will be performing the <br />Nutcracker in Redwood City on December 4 & 5, at 10:00 and 11:30am to school students and Kainos <br />adult community, and December 6 & 7 to the general public at Canada Community College in Redwood <br />City. The cast of 100 dancers will invite local school children to participate in school shows on Thursday <br />and Friday where they will have a chance to perform in the new Growing Christmas Tree scene. <br />Funding Requested: $3,000. Funding Recommended: $2,180. <br />BraveMaker. BraveMaker exists to elevate brave stories for justice, diversity, and inclusion through film <br />and community experiences. The sixth annual BraveMaker Film Festival in downtown Redwood City <br />celebrates brave stories and diverse storytellers over four days, July 10-13, 2025. Through films, panel <br />discussions, workshops and parties, Redwood City film lovers, Bay Area creators and filmmakers from all <br />over the country gather to celebrate the power of cinematic storytelling to create conversations and <br />ignite community impact. <br />Funding Requested: $7,500 Funding Recommended: $5,800. <br />Casa Circulo Cultural. In 2025, Casa Circulo Cultural celebrates 15 years of Dia de los Muertos in <br />Redwood City. This year’s theme is “Raflejos del Alma: Honrando a Grandes y Pequenos” (Reflections of <br />the Soul: Honoring the Young and the Grown). This milestone year holds special meaning: for the first <br />time in the festival’s history, it will be held on November 2, aligning precisely with the traditional Día de <br />Muertos celebration observed across Latin America. This timing strengthens the festival’s connection to <br />its cultural roots, bringing authenticity and deeper resonance to every moment. <br />Funding Requested: $15,000. Funding Recommended: $8,900. <br />Casa Circulo Cultural - Center for Creativity (CfC). The Center for Creativity’s mission is to establish an <br />inclusive, accessible, and innovative arts center that nurtures creativity, strengthens community bonds, <br />and empowers individuals to experience, create, and connect. Hosted at the Center for Creativity at <br />Hotel Sequoia, “Art + Sound on Broadway” is a vibrant, three-part series of inclusive, community-driven <br />events that bring people together through visual and performing arts, celebrating creativity, culture, and <br />6.E. - Page 5 of 7 <br />75
