ATTY/RESO.0078/CC RESO RESCINDING RESO NO. 16327 - BAIR ISLAND & WESTPOINT SLOUGH (PCA NOMINATION) <br />REV: 07-15-25 VR <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />RESOLUTION NO.16336 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 16327 AND NOMINATING THE <br />GEOGRAPHY AS DEPICTED IN THE ATTACHED MAP AS A PRIORITY <br />CONSERVATION AREA (PCA) AND AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF <br />THE NOMINATION AS THE “BAIR ISLAND AND WESTPOINT SLOUGH <br />PRIORITY CONSERVATION AREA” TO THE ASSOCIATION OF BAY <br />AREA GOVERNMENTS FOR DESIGNATION AS A PCA <br />WHEREAS, in 2007, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the <br />Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) developed a regional land use planning <br />framework that includes Priority Conservation Areas (PCA); and <br />WHEREAS, PCAs are designated geographic areas nominated by local <br />jurisdictions and recognized by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) to <br />support regional conservation, resilience and sustainability goals; and <br />WHEREAS, PCAs include diverse landscapes such as nature preserves, farms, <br />ranches, trails, urban parks, and areas that benefit from urban greening or nature-based <br />climate adaptation solutions; and <br />WHEREAS, the PCA planning framework includes locally nominated PCAs as <br />locations to coordinate local and regional planning for the conservation of regionally <br />significant areas which are adopted by ABAG; and <br />WHEREAS, the PCA designation provides opportunities for grant funding to <br />support recreational, restoration, and conservation projects, helping to achieve both local <br />and regional goals; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bair Island and Westpoint Slough PCA contains recreational <br />facilities including the San Francisco Bay Trail, wetlands, tidal plains, and wildlife corridors <br />that contribute to the recreational, ecological, and climate resilience needs of Redwood <br />City and the greater Bay Area; and <br />WHEREAS, Redwood City recognizes the importance of nominating the Bair <br />Island and Westpoint Slough PCA to ensure eligibility for future funding and support for <br />projects that enhance the area; and <br />WHEREAS, as needs and opportunities arise and funding becomes available, <br />Redwood City will coordinate with other government agencies, adjacent property owners, <br />and community partners and stakeholders to design and implement projects in the Bair <br />Island and Westpoint Slough PCA that enhance its recreational, ecological, and climate <br />resilience benefits;
