Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />DATE: August 25, 2025 <br />SUBJECT <br />FY2024-25 report of compliance with California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4 relating to <br />mandatory fire inspections <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution acknowledging receipt of the FY2024-25 report of compliance with California Health <br />and Safety Code Section 13146.4 relating to mandatory fire inspections. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />Under California Health and Safety Code Section 13146, a fire chief or a chief building official of a city <br />or county, or their representative, is responsible for enforcement of building standards adopted by <br />the State Fire Marshal and published in the California Building Standards Code relating to fire and <br />panic safety and other regulations of the State Fire Marshal. California Health and Safety Code Section <br />13146.3 requires the chief of any city or county fire department or district providing fire protection <br />services and his or her authorized representatives to inspect every building used as a public or private <br />school within his or her jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing specified building standards, not less <br />than once each year, as provided. California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.2 requires every <br />city or county fire department or district providing fire protection services that are required to enforce <br />specified building standards to annually inspect certain structures, including hotels, motels, lodging <br />houses, and apartment houses, for compliance with building standards, as provided. <br />SB 1205 added Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4, which now requires every city or county fire <br />department, city, and county fire department, or district required to perform the above-described <br />inspections to report annually to its administering authority, which is the City Council.
