Email sent from outside the United States.] Public Comment - Anti Camping Ordinance
Date:Monday, August 25, 2025 6:53:00 PM
Caution! This message was sent from outside your organization.
I missed the public comment for tonight's meeting, but still wanted to submit something.
My name is Tony Crapo, I'm a homeowner at the OneMarina Community on Bare Island.
On July 19, 2025, members of the OneMarina community on Bair Island had the opportunity
to meet with Councilmember Chris Sturken and walk through our neighborhood with him.
One of the major concerns we discussed was the ongoing presence of homeless encampments
and the extreme fire danger they create for our community.
During the walk, a homeless individual passed by smoking a joint, which I pointed out to
Councilmember Sturken as an example of what residents face on a daily basis. We also
observed large patches of dead weeds—some reaching three to four feet tall—that the City has
neglected to clear along the 101 underpass near Sports Basement. While vegetation has been
cut down on the Sports Basement side, the Bair Island side has been left untouched.
It was disappointing to our community to see Councilmember Sturken vote against the Anti-
Camping Ordinance without acknowledging the serious and repeated fire risk we live with. To
date, there have been 13 fires on Bair Island caused by encampments in just the past three
years. For the safety of our residents, I strongly support the adoption and enforcement of the
Anti-Camping Ordinance.
Thank you,
-Tony
