Although $100,000 currently is budgeted annually for classification and
compensation consulting services, a higher annual amount is recommended to provide flexibility and
ensure adequate funding for both scheduled and unanticipated needs.
The $135,000 annual amount accounts for scheduled compensation studies across several bargaining
units as well as additional workload stemming from position study (reclassification) requests. The number
of these reclassification requests is not known in advance. The timeline for SEIU to submit reclassification
requests has recently been extended from the previous two-month period (September–October) to a
four-month period (July–October), potentially increasing demand for consulting support in any given year.
If expenditures are expected to exceed the currently budgeted amount, the Human Resources
Department will submit a funding request during the appropriate budget cycle. All services will be
provided on an as-needed basis and billed monthly in accordance with the rate schedule provided in
Attachment A.
8.C. - Page 2 of 18
19
