City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
6. Agreement for Services with Alexander & Associates Inc. for on-call land surveyor professional
services in an amount not to exceed $200,000 over a 3-year period, with the option to extend for
two additional one-year periods in an amount not to exceed $100,000 per extension term through
2030.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Excellence in Government Operations
BACKGROUND
The City’s Engineering and Transportation Department (E&T) is responsible for delivering and managing
infrastructure projects related to the storm water system, sanitary sewer system, potable and recycled
water systems, roads, and bridges. Many of these projects require professional geotechnical investigation,
special inspection, materials testing, and/or land surveying services. Because City staff do not hold the
necessary certifications or licenses to perform these services, E&T engages qualified consultants through
a Request for Proposals (RFP) process and on-call contracts. These master agreements streamline project
delivery by allowing staff to issue task orders on a project-by-project basis.
E&T maintains a variety of on-call consultant contracts to support staff and provide specialized services
not furnished in-house. Current on-call contracts support projects in transportation, civil engineering
design, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and materials testing. The types of services
needed for project delivery include the following:
Geotechnical Investigation, Special Inspections, and Material Testing
Preparing and reviewing construction plans, specifications and project design reports in
accordance with current standards developed by the American Association of State Highway and
transportation Officials (AASHTO) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Performing soil borings and any laboratory testing required to provide comprehensive soil boring
logs and geotechnical reports.
Performing field observations/field density compaction testing services (nuclear gauge) and
material testing services.
Performing as needed special inspection and material testing services such as asphalt concrete
testing services, asphalt concrete pavement inspection, steel and Portland cement concrete
inspection, wielding inspection, pile driving inspection, coating inspection, and material testing
services.
Documenting test data and observation through daily and end-of-job summary reports.
7.C. - Page 2 of 110
37
