Learn why this is important <br />Dear Mayor and Council Members, <br /> <br />I am a local housing provider in Redwood City, and I am concerned about the proposed right-to return <br />proposal scheduled for October 13th. This proposal would impose additional restrictions that make it <br />harder to maintain and reinvest in rental housing. Mandating that housing providers to offer remodel units <br />at the same pre-renovated rent plus only the limited increases allowed under state law--could make <br />necessary renovations financially infeasible. <br /> <br />Redwood City already benefits from strong statewide renter protections under AB 1482 and its local <br />laws. The city's relocation payment for substantial remodels is up to four times stronger than the state. <br />The city already requires relocation payments to renters up to four times the current rent if they are <br />permanently displaced due to a substantial remodel. Adding local layers on top of those requirements will <br />discourage investment, reduce housing quality, and increase neighborhood blight affecting all residents in <br />Redwood City. <br /> <br />Please reconsider this proposal and instead work with housing providers on policies that preserve <br />affordability without discouraging investment or maintenance in our existing housing stock. <br /> <br />Sincerely, <br /> <br />James Baba
