City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
The Commission’s role will be to meet with all stakeholder groups, senior programs, non-profit groups,
senior clubs and classes to determine their expectations for the new center. We will try to understand the
specific needs of senior participant groups and align existing/new programming opportunities with the
new facility's capabilities.
The Commission will create a needs assessment report and offer proposed programming adjustments for
the new center to assess the building’s performance, functionality, and user satisfaction after 4 months
of operation.
The SAC will gather qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants in an engaging manner by
incorporating an interactive poll into a Commission meeting or other appropriate forum.
The FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27 SAC Work Plan is provided as Attachment D.
EQUITY IMPACT STATEMENT
The SAC prioritized equity when developing senior-focused goals, recognizing that achieving full equity is
an ongoing process. When strategizing about housing and homelessness, the SAC realized there are also
Home-based seniors who also need services. The Commission decided to add the term “Home-Based”
seniors as part of Housing on the strategic priority list.
The SAC aimed for accessibility and inclusion by planning for resources in different languages and non-
digital formats including printed resources. The goal was to enable all seniors’ accessibility to the vast
amount of housing information that the community has to offer.
In creating a goal around senior mobility and transportation, the SAC also made conscious efforts to
consider the input for the non-digitally native seniors. The SAC planned to mix digital and traditional
outreach methods, enabling all seniors to access mobility information, irrespective of their technological
skills or access.
In intergenerational programs, the VMSC staff and the SAC have observed a powerful mutual
understanding blossom between teens and seniors. Through their interactions, young people readily
share their technological skills and knowledge, while seniors offer invaluable life stories and experiences.
This exchange not only fosters empathy and patience in the younger participants but also creates a rich
environment for learning and connection across generations.
The SAC is committed to ensuring seniors in Redwood City have the opportunity for a fulfilling, dignified
life, regardless of their circumstances; this commitment to equity was a critical consideration in
developing our goals.
FISCAL IMPACT
Staff time is required to administer the work plan and to assist the SAC in achieving its goals. It is not
anticipated that any additional budget appropriation will be required.
8.B. - Page 7 of 48
64
