A subcommittee or an Ad hoc committee may be formed to research the “Current
Concerns” and determine the calendar format.
Equity/Community for All Ages: Support Inter-Generational Programs to Improve the Quality of Life for
Seniors:
Tech Friendly Programs
Our survey found that while nearly half of respondents (49%) use the internet for information, a significant
number still rely on personal connections. Specifically, 44% get information from family and friends, and
31% rely on word-of-mouth.
To bridge this gap, we're partnering with the Youth Advisory Board to host transportation tech sessions.
During these sessions, youth volunteers will help seniors add rideshare contacts to their phones,
download apps, and learn how to use them.
Age Friendly City
The City’s Age Friendly City Action Plan 2019-2023 is provided as Attachment C. The renewal process for
Redwood City's Age-Friendly designation begins in 2026. City staff, Senior Affairs Commissioners and
staff from Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center, will be seeking dedicated Community Leaders to champion
the next 3–5-year Age-Friendly Action Plan. With our senior population projected to double, the
upcoming action plan will focus on strengthening communication and community building to support
seniors as we move into the future. Staff will be meeting with AARP representatives soon to understand
the procedures and timeline for this important renewal process. The renewed plan will continue to
embrace AARP’s Age-Friendly States and Communities framework, further building an inclusive,
engaging, and healthy environment for all Redwood City residents. By focusing on the core principles
and valuable resources provided by this initiative, Redwood City aims to continually enhance its age-
friendly efforts.
Communication and Community Building
Transition Program and Evaluation
With excitement growing about the new Veterans Memorial Building/Senior Center Building, a key
conference topic emerged: How can we make the transition from the old building to the new one a
positive and fun experience for seniors, giving them an avenue to express themselves?
The successful transition to the new Veterans Memorial Building/Senior Center Building requires a multi-
faceted approach that considers logistical, programmatic, and human-centric elements. This plan phases
the transition from back in 2018 when initial engagement and planning in 2018 through the physical move
and opening, to post-opening assessment and continuous improvement. A key focus is on ensuring
comfort, accessibility, recognizing the importance of addressing adaptation challenges.
8.B. - Page 6 of 48
63
