Key Findings on Bus Stop Accessibility
Feedback from seniors highlights a need for more accessible and comfortable bus stops. Many
participants reported feeling less included due to a lack of essential information and amenities.
Specifically, seniors noted that bus stops often lack:
Bus route information and timetables, making it difficult to know what buses are coming and
when.
Shade or cover, leaving riders exposed to sun or inclement weather.
Benches, which are crucial for those who need to sit while waiting.
Recommendations and Next Steps
We will share these findings with local transportation agencies to advocate for improvements. We
also urge the City Council to discuss how they can encourage greater accessibility for seniors and the
entire community to use public transportation. Implementing these changes will make our transit
system more user-friendly for everyone.
Resource List Dissemination
As part of the survey, a “transportation options resource” list was provided to participants. Those who
took the survey in person received a hard copy to take home, while online participants had the option
to print the list. In response to the survey's findings, the Commission has expanded its Senior Support
List to include additional transportation resources.
Senior Access to Prescription Medication
Based on survey feedback, a significant number of seniors face challenges with transportation to
pharmacies for their medications.
To address this issue, we will partner with Sequoia, Stanford, Kaiser, and the VA hospitals to provide
informational sessions. These sessions will teach seniors how to use the internet to order
prescriptions for home delivery. We plan to host these educational programs at key senior centers,
including the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center, and the Redwood
Shores Senior Group.
8.B. - Page 21 of 48
78
