Extending the Art Kiosk Installation
As part of the RCIA’s ongoing effort to enrich
the local fine art scene for residents and visitors,
and after great success with past public art
installations, the RCIA will be investing $50K to
bring the Art Kiosk Installations into 2025. The
exhibitions will continue to host global and local
artists with powerful and meaningful messages for
our community.
Flower Planters
To support ongoing beautification efforts, the
RCIA will be investing an additional $12K towards
the purchase of materials and plants to build
5 more wooden planter boxes for Downtown
Redwood City. The additional planters will be
placed throughout downtown, enhancing the
vibrancy and warmth of community spaces.
Giant Mobile Chess Board
As part of the RCIA’s ongoing commitment to
fostering a vibrant and welcoming Downtown
Redwood City, the RCIA will make a $2.4K
contribution to Casa Círculo Cultural to support
the creation of a giant mobile chess board.
Designed to be movable and accessible, the chess
board will activate Courthouse Square, inviting
residents and visitors of all ages to play, connect,
and enjoy downtown Redwood City in a fresh
and dynamic way. The interactive installation will
also serve as an artistic addition to the plaza as it
will include chess pieces expertly crafted by local
Redwood City artist Fernando Escartiz.
PAGE 14 • 2024 ANNUAL REPORT
A LOOK INTO 2024 - 2025
Continuation of Sights, Sounds
& Tastes Campaign
The RCIA will continue their campaign centered
around the senses/feelings you have while
visiting Redwood City. The Campaign titled
“Sights, Sounds & Tastes of Redwood City” has
commissioned artistic pianos but will also include
the design and installation of new street banners,
and the activation of public spaces with
musical performances.
To celebrate the local culinary scene and
showcase the diverse range of downtown
eateries, the RCIA plans to support the
development of a new event concept titled
“Taste of Downtown Redwood City.” The event
will invite residents and visitors to explore
downtown by sampling bites and sips from a
variety of participating restaurants. Designed to
highlight Redwood City’s vibrant food culture
in the downtown, the event will encourage
exploration of local dining spots and increase
foot traffic throughout the area. Promotion will
be coordinated through media outreach, social
media, newsletter stories and
community outreach.
8.A. - Page 18 of 33
30
