Page 1 of 2 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />DATE: October 27, 2025 <br />SUBJECT <br />Waive the second reading and adopt an ordinance readopting the Military Equipment Use Policy <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Waive the second reading and adopt an ordinance readopting the Military Equipment Use Policy. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />On June 26, 2023, the City Council adopted an ordinance approving a Military Equipment Use Policy <br />(Policy) pursuant to Assembly Bill 481 (AB 481) as codified in California Government Code sections 7070- <br />7075. AB 481 requires annual review and renewal of the ordinance and policy. On June 10, 2024, the City <br />Council introduced an ordinance readopting the Military Equipment Use Policy for the Redwood City <br />Police Department. On June 9, 2025, the City Council waived the first reading and introduced an ordinance <br />readopting the Military Equipment Use Policy. <br />ANALYSIS <br />Staff recommends that Council waive the second reading and adopt the ordinance approving and <br />readopting the Military Equipment Use policy for the Redwood City Police Department. As required by <br />Government Code section 7072(a), the Department will publish and submit its next annual report to <br />Council in early 2026 and the report shall cover the preceding calendar year. The Department will also <br />submit its policy and inventory list for review and approval by ordinance at this time. This approval process <br />will continue going forward on a calendar year schedule. <br />8.G. - Page 1 of 44 <br />369
