No formal action will occur at this meeting. STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE Excellence in Government Operations BACKGROUND Redwood City’s stormwater system is a complex network of natural and engineered infrastructure that manages runoff and reduces flood risk. It includes natural creeks such as Redwood and Cordilleras Creeks, concrete-lined channels, underground storm drainpipes, green infrastructure like bioretention areas, man-made lagoons in Redwood Shores, levees along tidal areas, and stormwater pump stations. Together, these components play a critical role in protecting people, property, and community infrastructure. Due to its low-lying geography, aging infrastructure, and exposure to sea-level rise, Redwood City is highly vulnerable to flooding. To address this risk, the City developed a Stormwater Roadmap (Attachment A) that identifies near- and long-term system needs, funding strategies, and a framework for an ongoing stormwater program. The Roadmap builds on existing data, flood studies, maintenance reports, and community input, and is aligned with regional and state regulations. This study session provides an overview of Redwood City’s stormwater system, including how it is maintained and funded, and outlines strategies to address both immediate and long-term infrastructure needs.
