29 <br /> <br />Table 6 – Bicycle Room Performance Criteria <br />CONVENIENCE <br />• Easily accessible from the street <br />• As convenient or more than car parking <br />• Have fixing tools/toolbox for basic bicycle maintenance <br />• Have outlet for e-bicycle charging <br />• Inside the same building as the people intended to serve <br />SECURITY • Limited access to users <br />• Well-lit and publicly visible from outside <br />ORIENTATION • Can use in-ground racks, vertical racks, or horizontal mounts <br />ACCESS <br />• At grade and adjacent to the public-right-of-way and preferably with its separate <br />access to the open area <br />• Access aisle is 6’ wide and free of obstacles with no more than two doors or <br />other constriction points <br />• Access route has no stairs, steep ramps, or small elevators <br />• Access route is well-lit <br />• Allow enough room to maneuver inside the room (36” aisle) <br />• No more than 50% of long-term bicycle parking shall be high-density. At least <br />• 50% needs to be on-ground bicycle parking, with at least 5% of these spaces <br />reserved as extra-wide bicycle parking spaces. <br />o For long-term bicycle parking in senior homes, all bicycle parking needs to <br />be on-ground with at least 15% reserved as extra-wide bicycle parking <br />spaces. <br />o Extra-wide spaces shall have an area of 6’ L X 10’ W <br />• Enough clearance around lockers to allow for simultaneous users <br />• Most lockers will not accommodate extended-framed bicycles like cargo bicycles <br />MANAGEMENT <br />• Business or building managers shall manage who has access to the bicycle room <br />and ensure it is kept clean and functioning. <br />• Racks with moving parts like lift assist for two-tiered horizontal racks must be <br />inspected regularly to ensure they are functioning properly. <br />• Each user should sign a user agreement outlining how the locker is to be used, <br />prohibited storage, and seizure of items, etc. <br />Bicycle rooms should have signs/contact information for building manager to <br />report issues with the facility. <br /> <br />High-Density Rack Types <br />HORIZONTAL TWO-TIERED RACK <br />Lift-assist top tray <br />• Recommended aisle access of 60”, minimum of 48” <br />• Minimum ceiling height of 108” <br />• Recommended 80” of depth, 60” minimum <br />• 17” space between individual bicycle trays <br />• Units that accommodate 12 bicycles have a width of 94” and 8” of space between the <br />trays and the nearest walls. <br />• Units that accommodate 8 bicycles have a width of 60” and 8” between the trays and the <br />nearest walls <br /> <br /> <br />7.A. - Page 101 of 121 <br />107
