40

Figure 40: Bicycle parking shelter (City of Austin, TX)

Shared-Use Micromobility

Scooter Corrals for Shared Micromobility Systems
Some other micromobility devices, such as e-scooters, are much smaller than standard two-wheel
bicycles. Their typical dimensions are 3.5’ L x 3.5’ H x 0.5’ W. Currently, many cities including
Redwood City offer shared micromobility programs through vendors.

Scooter CORRALS SHOULD BE:
• Marked with neutral, non-branded, or universal-branded signage to best inform
customers of where vehicles should be parked.
• Located in the street furniture zone or in the traditional auto on-street parking lane along
the curb (See Bicycle Corrals).
• Located at least 15’ from a crosswalk or curb ramp.
• Provide a minimum 6’ feet clear path for pedestrians, when located in the furniture zone.12

More information about scooter parking regulations and shared micromobility operation is
available at www.redwoodcity.org/sharedmicromobility.

12 National Association of City Transportation Officials, Guidelines for Regulating Shared Micromobility, September 2019
7.A. - Page 112 of 121
118
