EXHIBIT A <br />PROPOSED NEW JOB DESCRIPTION <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />CRIME ANALYST <br />DEFINITION <br />To perform professional-level work involving the collection, analysis, and interpretation <br />of crime and related data to support law enforcement operations, criminal investigations, <br />and strategic planning. The position is responsible for identifying crime patterns, trends, <br />and series; forecasting criminal activity; and supporting investigative efforts by assisting <br />personnel with casework and by developing reports, bulletins, and visualizations that <br />guide the effective deployment of resources and the development of crime prevention <br />strategies. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is a civilian classification within the Police Department. The Crime Analyst is <br />distinguished by its focus on applying analytical methods to interpret crime data and <br />generate actionable insights to department personnel. The position requires strong <br />analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information <br />clearly and effectively to various audiences. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general supervision from Police Sergeant within the Investigations Unit, and/or <br />may receive direction from the Police Chief or designee. Exercises technical guidance <br />to support staff as needed. <br />EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br />1.Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources, including crime <br />reports, arrest records, calls for service, and other relevant information. <br />2.Identify, analyze and interpret crime patterns, trends, and series to support the <br />development of strategies for crime prevention and enforcement. <br />3.Prepare and disseminate analytical reports, bulletins, maps, and presentations <br />to department personnel and other stakeholders. <br />ATTY/RESO.0125/CC RESO AMENDING CLASSIFICATION AND WAGE AND SALARY PLAN (CRIME ANALYST) - EXHIBIT A <br />REV: 12-05-25 MI
