EXHIBIT A PROPOSED NEW JOB DESCRIPTION CITY OF REDWOOD CITY CRIME ANALYST DEFINITION To perform professional-level work involving the collection, analysis, and interpretation of crime and related data to support law enforcement operations, criminal investigations, and strategic planning. The position is responsible for identifying crime patterns, trends, and series; forecasting criminal activity; and supporting investigative efforts by assisting personnel with casework and by developing reports, bulletins, and visualizations that guide the effective deployment of resources and the development of crime prevention strategies. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a civilian classification within the Police Department. The Crime Analyst is distinguished by its focus on applying analytical methods to interpret crime data and generate actionable insights to department personnel. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to various audiences. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from Police Sergeant within the Investigations Unit, and/or may receive direction from the Police Chief or designee. Exercises technical guidance to support staff as needed. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1.Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources, including crime reports, arrest records, calls for service, and other relevant information. 2.Identify, analyze and interpret crime patterns, trends, and series to support the development of strategies for crime prevention and enforcement. 3.Prepare and disseminate analytical reports, bulletins, maps, and presentations to department personnel and other stakeholders.
