Advocate for visual and performing arts and cultural awareness <br />Streamline the current public art process <br />Create an updated commission handbook to help improve commissioner onboarding <br />Complete commission website updates <br />2. Sponsor arts and culture through grants and events <br />Engage/explore a youth focus group to gather feedback and select at least one visual or <br />performing art project to support <br />Continue awarding grants to non-profit agencies through the current application process <br />Research/explore the installation of an arts vending machine, providing a place where <br />people can buy art and discover new artists for an affordable price <br />3. Facilitate public art events <br />Commission the first in a series of interactive murals that attracts visitors from around the <br />Bay Area and beyond <br />Create a proposal for the consideration of a “Day of Music” event in Redwood City and <br />work with staff to determine feasibility <br />Engage with RCIA and Parks and Arts Foundation on the vision of the beautification and <br />activation of the Broadway Pedestrian Mall <br />EQUITY IMPACT STATEMENT <br />The Arts Commission Work Plan for FY 2025–2027 advances Redwood City’s vision of being a community <br />where people of all backgrounds and income levels can thrive by expanding equitable access to arts and <br />cultural opportunities through inclusive public art, youth engagement, and community grants. These <br />efforts foster civic pride, representation, and belonging while ensuring compliance with the Art in Public <br />Places Ordinance. To mitigate disparities, the City will strengthen outreach to underserved populations, <br />enhance commissioner onboarding around equity and inclusion, and ensure transparent, accessible <br />participation in arts programming. Progress will be measured through community and commissioner <br />engagement and attendance, diversity of participants and grantees, and feedback on inclusivity, <br />demonstrating success when engagement reflects Redwood City’s diversity and all residents feel <br />welcomed in its creative life. <br />9.A. - Page 4 of 15 <br />123
