Learn why this is important
Dear Council Members,
We support efforts to improve Jefferson Avenue and appreciate Redwood City’s leadership in
repairing and modernizing this important corridor.
As nearby residents, however, we urge the City to closely consider traffic and safety impacts
on adjacent streets. From our perspective, historic traffic-calming measures on Hudson and
Jefferson appear to divert through-traffic onto neighboring streets when drivers seek to avoid
delays.
Combined with reduced traffic enforcement and the return of commuter traffic, these
diversions have made side streets feel less safe. This is particularly concerning in a
neighborhood with a high concentration of schools and child pedestrian activity.
We respectfully request that safety impacts on surrounding neighborhoods be measured and
addressed as part of the Jefferson Avenue plans. We are concerned that restricting vehicle
traffic on a major thoroughfare could simply shift congestion and risk to more vulnerable areas
rather than resolve it.
Sincerely,
Mark & Lauren Nagel
Jeter Street
