City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
DATE: April 2, 2026
SUBJECT
Recommendation from the City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Special Events to adopt resolutions: 1)
reaffirming the City’s commitment to civil liberties, social justice, and a welcoming, inclusive, and safe
community for all; and 2) affirming the City’s authority to regulate and control the use of City property
and facilities
SUMMARY
The Ad Hoc Committee on Special Events has discussed the importance of Redwood City’s role as a
welcoming community when considering community events and developed a proposal to recommend to
the City Council the adoption of two resolutions.
The first proposed resolution would reaffirm the City’s commitment to civil liberties, social justice, and a
welcoming, inclusive, and safe community for all. This resolution builds on values long established and
celebrated in Redwood City, as detailed below.
The second resolution would affirm the City’s authority to regulate and control the use of City property
and facilities, and to enforce these prohibitions, including through legal action.
RECOMMENDATION
The City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Special Events (Committee) recommends that the City Council:
1. Adopt a resolution reaffirming the City’s commitment to civil liberties, social justice, and a welcoming,
inclusive, and safe community for all (Attachment A); and
2. Adopt a resolution affirming the City’s authority to regulate and control the use of City property and
facilities. (Attachment B)
8.A. - Page 1 of 10
15
