Learn why this is important
Dear Redwood City Councilmembers,
As Superintendent of the Sequoia Union High School District, I am writing to express strong
support for the proposed ordinance updating Redwood City’s Tobacco Retail Permit
regulations and authorizing San Mateo County to administer and enforce them within the city.
This action is urgently needed to address ongoing illegal sales of flavored tobacco and vaping
products to youth, which directly undermines our efforts to keep students healthy, focused,
and ready to learn. Strengthening licensing, inspections, and penalties for retailers who sell to
those under 21 will significantly reduce youth access to these addictive products and aligns
with our district’s commitment to a safe and healthy learning environment. I respectfully urge
you to adopt the ordinance.
Sincerely,
Crystal Leach, Superintendent
Sequoia Union High School District
480 James Avenue
Redwood City, California 94062
(650) 369-1411
