<br />BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ARTS COMMISSION
<br />LARGE GRANT APPLICANTS FY 26-27
<br />Art Bias. Art Bias requests funding to expand its partnership with Casa Círculo Cultural by doubling the
<br />number of free bilingual summer art classes offered to youth participating in Casa Círculo’s summer
<br />camp program. The project will provide hands-on visual arts instruction, artist studio tours, art
<br />supplies, transportation, and snacks for approximately 22 youth ages 7–12 from the North Fair Oaks
<br />community, with classes led by professional teaching artists in both English and Spanish. The program
<br />aims to increase access to arts education, foster creative expression, and support cultural inclusion for
<br />underserved youth.
<br />Funding Requested: $4,650. Funding Recommended: $4,120.
<br />Ballet America. Ballet America requests funding to support its annual production of The Nutcracker, a
<br />family-friendly holiday ballet featuring a cast of approximately 100 local dancers and professional guest
<br />artists. The production includes multiple public performances as well as school matinees in Redwood
<br />City, providing opportunities for local students to attend and participate in the performance
<br />experience. The project aims to expand access to the performing arts, engage youth and families in
<br />arts education, and strengthen Redwood City's cultural offerings through a long-standing community
<br />tradition.
<br />Funding Requested: $3,000. Funding Recommended: $2,500.
<br />BraveMaker. BraveMaker requests funding to support the eighth annual BraveMaker Film Fest, a five-
<br />day film festival held in downtown Redwood City that celebrates diverse storytellers and promotes
<br />dialogue around issues including mental health, racial justice, gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and
<br />disability inclusion. The festival features film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, and community
<br />events across multiple venues, with free and low-cost programming designed to increase accessibility
<br />and community participation. The project is expected to attract more than 2,000 attendees while
<br />enhancing Redwood City’s arts and culture scene, supporting emerging filmmakers, and driving
<br />economic activity in the downtown area.
<br />Funding Requested: $10,000 Funding Recommended: $8,200.
<br />Casa Circulo Cultural. Casa Círculo Cultural requests funding to support its 16th annual Día de los
<br />Muertos Festival in downtown Redwood City, a free, bilingual cultural celebration honoring the
<br />Indigenous traditions and ancestral heritage of Tlaxcala, Mexico. The festival will feature community
<br />altars, music and dance performances, visual art installations, workshops, storytelling, a community
<br />procession, and local vendors, creating an inclusive space for cultural exchange, remembrance, and
<br />artistic expression. Expected to attract more than 12,000 attendees, the event aims to celebrate and
<br />preserve Mexican cultural traditions while fostering intercultural understanding, community pride, and
<br />equitable access to arts and cultural programming
