City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
Mobility
Access to the area is served primarily by Broadway and Bay Road (east/west) and Woodside Road, Charter
Street, and Douglas Avenue (north/south). Broadway, Bay Road, and Woodside Road carry the bulk of
through auto traffic in the area and thus have wider rights of way than Charter Street and Douglas Street,
which carry local traffic. The current bicycle infrastructure in the area is inconsistent, with notable gaps
between dedicated bike lanes and high-quality facilities, as shown on Figure 3; however, as further
discussed below, there are numerous bicycle infrastructure projects currently in various stages of
conceptualization, design, and construction that are anticipated to improve access and convenience for
the movement for bicyclists in the near- and medium-term. There are also opportunities to improve
pedestrian comfort and visibility in the area, especially at intersection crossings.
Figure 3: Existing Bicycle Facilities with Dedicated Bike Lanes in Potential GDAP Expansion Area*
*Note: a “buffered bike lane” includes additional space between the auto traffic lane and the bike
lane. See Table 2 for example images.
9.A. - Page 7 of 27
534
