Attorney General to issue early interpretive guidance. A discernible standard protects good-faith agencies,
gives courts a consistent test, and strengthens the act against vagueness challenges.
For these reasons, the City of Redwood City must respectfully oppose SB 1164 unless it is amended as
described above. We stand ready to work with you, the author, and the sponsors to address these
concerns, and we are committed to advancing the shared goal of full and fair participation in local
elections. We are grateful for the author's engagement to date and stand ready to work with the author
and the Committee. Should you have any questions, please contact our legislative advocate Dane
Hutchings or Claire Sullivan with California Public Policy Group at 916-974-9270.
Respectfully,
Elmer Martínez Saballos
Mayor
City of Redwood City
cc: The Honorable Sabrina Cervantes, California State Senate (author)
Members, Assembly Committee on Appropriations
The Honorable Josh Becker, Senate District 13
The Honorable Diane Papan, Assembly District 21
7.D. - Page 17 of 17
305
