PROPOSED <br />NEW JOB DESCRIPTION <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />DEPUTY BUILDING OFFICIAL <br />DEFINITION <br />Under direction of the Community Development Services Manager/Building, assists in <br />the administration and leadership of the Building Division’s daily operations; supports <br />the Community Development Services Manager/Building in ensuring the safety and <br />compliance of construction activities throughout the City. This position oversees and <br />participates in plan review, inspections, permit issuance, policy development, code <br />implementation, and staff training. The Deputy Building Official ensures efficient service <br />delivery and exceptional customer service, working collaboratively with staff, <br />consultants, other departments, and members of the public. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is a management classification in the Community Development Department, <br />responsible for overseeing Building Division functions such as Building Inspection, Plan <br />Review, Permitting and Code Enforcement. Responsibilities include work related to <br />safety and compliance, plan review, inspections, permitting, policy development, code <br />enforcement, and personnel training and supervision. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives direction from the Community Development Services Manager/Building, or the <br />Community Development Director. <br />Provides direct supervision to Building Division staff including professional and technical <br />staff, as assigned. May provide oversight and direction to consultants and/or other office <br />personnel, as assigned. <br />EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br />•Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff, which could include building <br />inspectors, plan checkers, permit technicians, and code enforcement officers. <br />•Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and career development/training plans for <br />division staff. <br />•Provide technical and professional guidance to staff on complex plan review, <br />inspection, and enforcement issues. <br />ATTY/RESO.0050/CC RESO CLASSIFICATION AND WAGE AND SALARY PLAN (CAO, PD, AND BLDG DEPARTMENT POSITIONS) - EXHIBIT A <br />REV: 07-17-26 ET <br /> <br />Page 2 of 17
