From:k m
To:GRP-City Council
Subject:Item 9.B
Date:Monday, July 27, 2026 11:56:54 AM
You don't often get email from rwcproperties@gmail.com. Learn why this is important
Hello,
This written comment is for the record regarding Item 9.B.
We are third generation Redwood City residents. We’ve been Mom and Pop landlords in
Redwood City for seventeen years.
Situations like ours don’t get discussed much when there are various rent control
proposals, but we are impacted far more than large companies that own the huge
buildings in town.
Our small apartment building has far below market rents. All of our costs continue to
rise every single year.
Large companies can absorb these costs, but for us it stops making sense to continue in
this business. We understand where the legislation is coming from, but the community
will be different if only large companies can afford to be landlords.
Previously we were thinking of a way to do some infill conversion of one large home into
four distinct units. We know that’s what Redwood City needs, but if legislation like this
is in effect it wouldn’t make any sense.
An overbearing regulatory environment shoots Redwood City in the foot on the goal of
creating more equitable and inclusive housing. It is an admirable and worthy goal. This
legislation is not the way to do it.

Kelilyn and Devin McKeever
