I am a Redwood City resident and I reside at 825 Marshall Street. I write to express concern and opposition to the resolution to the resolution conditionally vacating the Spring Street Segment (consisting of a portion of Spring Street and a remnant City parklet located at Marshall and Walnut Streets). I have three concerns with this parklet issue in particular. I have no concerns with the plans to build around this are in general, but the parklet is just not needed to be part of those plans. First, I wish to let it be known that the parklet under discussion currently consists of several tall, very nice trees. The trees that are in this parklet are currently some of the very few tall trees left around downtown Redwood City. The parklet provides a nice area of a nature to the downtown scene. It would be a shame to loose the trees that currently make up the parklet. More should be done to protect the look and existence of these trees. Second, I take great issue with the wording of the resolution. The resolution states that the parklet is "long underutilized.” I do not believe that to be true at all. The parklet is well kept, and as I see from my window everyday it is used by dozens of people on a day to day basis. More to the point, it is “used” as a vital source of nature for all who live in Redwood City. Third, and finally, I wish to make it known that I also take issue with the manner in which this issue was publicized. The resolution states that "notice was posted conspicuously along the line of the Spring Street Segment.” I do not think this is accurate. I do not think it is fair to say the notice was conspicuously posted. It was placed on a small piece of paper attached to a stick. You could not read it unless you were right up on top of it. Even then, the notice that was posted only provided very vague information. Anyone looking to challenge the sale of this property in the future should seriously look to see if this issue was properly noticed; I hope this comment provides a helpful for clue for those looking to challenge the issue in the future. In conclusion, I hope that council thinks seriously about whether it is in fact worth it to loose this valuable element of the city. Sincerely, Chris
