From:DAWN POSTON
To:GRP-City Council
Subject:Item 9.B Public Comment
Date:Sunday, July 26, 2026 7:53:34 AM
Some people who received this message don't often get email from jumperdawn@aol.com. Learn why this isimportant
Dear Council Members,
I have been a RWC rental property owner since 1981. I
provide clean, safe, well-maintained, reasonably priced homes
for three families. I work very hard to try to both keep rents
down and maintenance complete. I ask you to oppose 9.B as
the city’s very own analysis determined that the measure
reaches far beyond a rent cap and could have significant
consequences for rental housing operations, affordable
housing, city resources and long-term housing availability.
The reality of selling my property grows more attractive each
day. There are more and more state and local regulations,
more and more intrusions into my personal business, and more
and more headaches for me the owner. If I choose the reality
of selling, at today’s prices the new owner will be forced to
raise rents to pay the cost of the property. Maintenance
suffers, fewer people are willing to take on the headaches of a
landlord. Higher rents=fewer families can afford. My tenants
do not work in the high salaried tech industry. They are a
carpenter, a cook, a teacher, a forester-the kinds of people
RWC needs.
My grandparents and later my father lived in RWC for over 75
years. I was born in Palo Alto and my first home was in RWC.
I’ve watched it change from the sleepy little friendly
affordable city to a costly large city. Housing is very difficult.
Please do not make it worse by adopting Item 9.B. Thank you.
Dawn Poston
