LABOR'S LEAGUE FOR POLITICAL EDUCATION
of SHIPYARD LABORERS, LOCAL 886
AMERICAN FEDERATION OF LABOR
14•
COMMITTEE
O. K. MITCHELL, CHAIRMAN
R. J. CALIFORNIA DISTRICT COUNCIL OF LABORERS
BAY CITIES METAL TRADES COUNCIL
PACIFIC COAST DOTRLCT METAL TRADES COUNCIL
ALAMEDA COUNTY CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL
SAN FRANCISCO CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL
CALIFORNIA STATE FEDERATION OF LABOR
May 13, 1954
Three Bay area Congressmen, John J. Allen, Jr.,
William S. Mailliar.d and John F. Shelley, recently
submitted identical House Resolutions. Indicative
of the importance of the subject matter s the fact
that six of their colleagues on the Committee offered
the same Resolutions.
Many of us here have been concerned with the
plight of our local Shipyard Industry. It is obvious
that the lack of active shipyards in the Bay area
could be irreparably harmful in the event of any
necessary full scale mobilization. A complete study
of the several problems could be of much value in
restoring our local yards to their _rightful ?position
in any mobilization planning.
The Congressmen in the Bay area have consistent-
ly championed. the local Shipyard Industry and, as
members of the Com.rrnittee of Congress conducting this
study, may be counted upon to adequately point out
the need to the United States of a Shipyard Industry
in the Bay area.
Enclosed please find a copy of the Resolution
in question. It would be much appreciated if, by an
official action of your body, you. would support the
need for this study and notify Congressmen Allen,
Mailliard or Shelley and send copy of your communica-
tion to us.
Very truly ,yours,
R. 'J, B RENNAN
Secretary
RJB f
oeiu 29 -afl
Eno.
