A former League president and current board member, Sanders was recognized with
WIMG's 2009 Annual Leadership Award for her outstanding achievements as a local elected
official including her support of women at the local government level.

The League's Immediate Past President Judy Mitchell attended the awards ceremony. The
Roiling Hills Estates mayor commended Sanders for her achievements.

"Sed alia has been instrumental to the League of California Cities for many years. Committed to
public service and helping women achieve their goals, she works tirelessly on behalf of cities. It
was an honor to be present as Sed alia received this great award. Communities benefit when both
men and women serve on city councils and this award recognizes the contribution women make, II
said Mitchell.

Sanders was first elected to the EI Centro City Council in 1985 and has served two tenures -
1985-1999 and 2003-present. She served as League president from 1995-1996.

NLC's WIMG was formed in 1974 and serves as a forum for women municipal officers and their
colleagues.

New Resources Are Available From the Institute for Local Government

The Institute for Local Government's (ILG) California Climate Action Network now features new
resources on its Web site (www.ca-lIa.ora/climatechanae) for local agencies.

The first resource is a sample commercial recycling ordinance (www.ca-
i1a.oralcommercialrecvclina) with an extensive commentary explaining various positions, which
can be customized by your local agency.
