<br />01/11/2010 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />Courthouse Square Administrative Guidelines <br /> <br />SECTION 1: PURPOSE AND AUTHORITY <br /> <br />The purpose of the Courthouse Square Event Administrative Guidelines is to describe <br />the policies and procedures for permitted events at Courthouse Square. <br /> <br />The objectives of the permit requirements are 1) to coordinate multiple uses of limited <br />space in order to protect public safety and preserve historic Courthouse Square; 2) to <br />prevent dangerous, unlawful or impermissible uses, and 3) to assure the City's financial <br />soundness where events consume services or damage facilities. <br /> <br />Chapter 33A Article III of the Redwood City Municipal Code sets forth the permitting <br />requirements for the use of Courthouse Square. This document provides policies and <br />procedures to supplement the provisions of Chapter 33A Article III and is issued and <br />executed by the City Manager or his or her designee. Chapter 33A II I will be referred to <br />as the "Courthouse Square Ordinance" and these policies and procedures will be <br />referred to as "Administrative Guidelines." A copy of the Courthouse Square Ordinance <br />in its entirety is available through the City of Redwood City's website: <br />www.redwoodcity.org and the City Clerk. <br /> <br />SECTION 2: EVENT CATEGORIES <br /> <br />A. "Minor Event" means an event open to the public at no charge and all of the <br />following apply: no food preparation or cooking; no vehicles on the Square; no <br />stages or barricades; no open flame including wood, charcoal, or liquid fuel <br />device, except candles, which shall be used in accordance with the City's Fire <br />Code; no more than (2) 10' x 10' booths. <br /> <br />B. "Major Event" means an event open to the public and may involve any of the <br />following: cooking or food preparation; the use of a stage, road closures, <br />generators; the use of three or more tables or booths (or a combination thereof); <br />the placement or use of other equipment and/or temporary structures; staging <br />vehicles on the plaza per Section 6 in the Administrative Guidelines; or by <br />requiring payment as a condition to entry. <br /> <br />C. "Exclusive Use" means an event that is closed to the public at which attendance <br />is by invitation only and may involve any of the following: cooking or food <br />preparation; the use of a stage, road closures, generators; the use of three or <br />more tables or booths (or a combination thereof); the placement or use of other <br />equipment and/or temporary structures; or staging vehicles on the plaza per <br />Section 6 in the Administrative Guidelines. <br /> <br />Page 1 of21 <br /> <br />Admin.
