Mr. Ponty answered these <br />questions as well as others about notification. <br /> <br />Mayor Ira opened the Public Hearing <br /> <br />Public Comment <br />Claire Felong said that it is hard to realize that there is nothing one can do to decrease the <br />rates. She hopes people decrease garbage generation. She particularly spoke about <br />styrofoam and how biodegradable products are so much better than that product. <br /> <br />M/S FousUBain to close the public hearing. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> <br />M/S FousUPierce to approve the resolution. <br />Council Member Foust thanked Evan Boyd for his professionalism. Vice Mayor Aguirre <br />acknowledged the people in the audience present to speak. <br />The Mayor reopened the public hearing. <br /> <br />Council Member Aguirre said that the public hearing has been reopened and the process is <br />to fill out a card and bring it up. There was no objection to reopening the public hearing. <br /> <br />Olga A. Portida spoke for various people present and she said they live in mobile homes <br />and she asked who is controlling their rates. She spoke about challenges with the landlord <br />and ever increasing rates. <br /> <br />Barbara Tingley also lives in a mobile home noted that there are a lot of seniors on fixed <br />incomes and that there have been a lot of complaints regarding the sewer backups. <br />Mayor Ira explained that tonight the issue is on collection rates not sewer rates. <br /> <br />Francisco Avitia asked who is raising the rates and said they do not understand who is <br />doing this and why, and that they do not have any recycling bins. He said there have been <br />multiple sewage backups with sewage all over the floor and he expressed concerns about <br />health, jurisdiction, and how no one has helped them or provided guidance on what to do. <br />He asked for guidance on what to do because they live in Redwood City. Mr. Avitia <br />provided photos for the record. <br /> <br />Council Member Foust suggested that the folks present leave their contact information so <br />that the City Manager can follow up. <br /> <br />Janet Borgens, Planning Commission Vice Chair, offered to help whoever needs help and <br />she offered to provide them her information and is willing to be of assistance. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Aguirre thanked those present and asked them to leave contact information <br />and leave the photos. <br />M/S FousUGee to close hearing. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />M/S FousUPierce to approve the resolution (the original motion had been tabled).
