<br />RES C L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />NO. <br /> <br />2118 <br /> <br />REQ1~STING AND RECO~TI1ENDING THAT SPRUCE STREET, <br />OR A REASONABLE PARALLEL ALTERNATIVE ROUTE, BE <br />ESTABLISHED AS A STATE HIGHWAY TO CONNECT BAYSHORE <br />FREEWAY AND THE INTERSECTION OF WOODSIDE ROAD AND <br />EL C.A...MINO REAL IN Tl'::E CITY OF' REDlrJOOD CITY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, El Camino Real (state Highway Route 2) has <br /> <br />become overly congested and cannot adequately handle through <br /> <br />traffic within the limits of the City of Redwood City; and, <br /> <br />vniEREAS, said through traffic should be diverted to the <br /> <br />proposed Bayshore Freeway upon completion thereof; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Main Street (state Highway Route 107) will <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />not under present plans connect wi th Bayshore Freeway', and <br /> <br /> <br />further, cannot economically be widened and/or improved suffi- <br /> <br />cient to handle the abovementioned through traffic; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the propos ed Bayshore Freewa'Y' Interchange in <br /> <br />Redwood City connecting Bayshore Freeway, Harbor Boulevard and <br /> <br />Broadway' will terminate at Broadway in a location approximately <br /> <br />in line with the easterly extension of Spruce Street; and, <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, the Planning Cow~ission and City Council of <br /> <br />the City of Redwood City have established and adopted plan lines <br /> <br /> <br />eighty (80') feet in width along the present alignment of Spruce <br /> <br />Street between El Camino Real and Hilton street, and through <br /> <br />undeveloped property, to the proposed connection to the Bayshore <br /> <br />F1reeway Interchange at Broa.dway; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the easterly extension of Spruce street as a <br /> <br />state Highway, or the easterly extension of a parallel alternate <br />state Highway route, is essential to provide direct and efficient <br /> <br />connection between the intersection of Woodside Road (State <br /> <br />Highway Route 107) and El Camino Real, (state Highway Route 2) <br /> <br />and the abovementioned Interchange on the Bayshore Freeway at <br /> <br />Broadwa:y"; and, <br /> <br />~fHEREAS, the abovementioned extension of Spruce street <br /> <br />would provide the only direct ronnection between the intersection <br /> <br />of state Highway Routes 107 and 2 and the Ba:/"shore Freeway south <br />
