<br />of Whipple Avenue in Redwood City; and, <br />WIIEREAS, the Ci t~- of Red11'l00d Ci ty cannot finance an ade- <br />quate connection betvJeen the abovementioned intersection and <br />the Bayshore Preeway vIi th the limited gas tax funds available to <br />it; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire and intention of this Council <br />that Spruce street be established, improved and developed as a <br />state Highway to provide a direct connecting route between the <br />abovementioned intersection and the proposed Bayshore Freeway <br />at Broadway in the City of Redwood City. <br />NOW, ':eHEREFORE, BE I~:I RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY: <br />1. This Council hereby requests and recolll.Il1ends that the <br />state of California, Department of Public Works, Division of <br />Highways, take action to establish Spruce Street in Redwood City <br />as a State Highway and cause the same to be extended and improved <br />to provide a direct connecting route between the intersection of <br />State Highway Routes 107 and 2 in the City of Redwood City, said <br />intersection being conmlonly known as Five Points Intersection, <br />and the proposed Bayshore Freeway Interchange at BroadvJay in the <br />City of Redwood City; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in the event the abovementioned <br />extension of Spruce Street as a state Highway is economically or <br />phy'sically impractical, it is the reque st and recommendation of <br />this Council tllat the state of California, Department of Public <br />1rJorks , Division of Highways, undertake to establish a reasonable <br />parallel alternative route to effect the abovementioned connection <br />between tIle intersection of state Highway Routes 107 and 2, common- <br />l~- known as Five Points Intersection and the proposed Bayshore <br />Freeway Intercl1.ange at Broadway in the City of Redwood Ci ty. <br /> <br />-2- <br />
